It was broadcast on ABC. Nominations were announced on October 9, 2012. Nicki Minaj and Rihanna lead the nominations with both receiving four each. Nicki was set to perform at the show, along with Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, Linkin' Park, and more. She performed "Freedom" off The Re-Up. She also made a guest performance with Justin Bieber for their hit song, "Beauty and a Beat".

Nicki performed twice on the AMA 2012. She first come at stage to perform her newest single "Freedom." Bundled up in a furry white coat with pink hair, the rap diva performed her new single “Freedom” live for the first time. As snow began to fall from the sky, a choir joined her onstage.
Following her performance of "Freedom," Nicki Minaj made a quick wardrobe change and joined Justin Bieber on stage at the American Music Awards. The teen superstar kicked things off with an acoustic rendition of "As Long As You Love Me" before jumping into his current single "Beauty and a Beat."
